Animals' Angels e.V., an internationally operating, non-profit-making organisation, was founded in March 1998 by Christa Blanke and Michael Blanke. The organisation is based in Frankfurt a. Main.
As early as in 1999, Christa Blanke was presented with the "Hessischer Tierschutzpreis", an animal welfare prize awarded by the federal state of Hessen, Germany. Further animal welfare awards included the Scottish Lord Houghton Award in 2001 (Christa Blanke was the first recipient of this prize outside of Great Britain), the "Franziskus-Preis" and the "Hans-Rönn-Preis". In October 2004, Christa Blanke was awarded the "Karl-Adolf-Laubscher-Preis" for her dedication and commitment in the field of environmental and animal protection.
Animals' Angels are active worldwide:
- Accompanying the animals on the way to the slaughterhouses in order to ease their suffering.
- Fighting against every kind of abuse, torture, cruel treatment and exploitation of farm animals ("work and slaughter animals").
- Raising public awareness and informing the public on abuses in the field of animal transportation and slaughtering.
- Abolition of long-distance transports of farm animals.
- that the cruel treatment of animals is contradictory to the self-perception and implicit system of values of the developed nations in Europe and other parts of the world;
- that especially the long-distance transport of animals can have no moral justification;
- that advocating animal rights must be given the same priority as fighting for human rights;
- that animals must no longer be treated as "goods" but be recognised as sentient beings with their own inalienable rights.
