The consumption of camel meat and milk is rising steadily, and not only in the Middle East. As a result, the number of camels in industrial farming, on markets and in international trade is also increasing. The growing camel industry is completely neglecting animal welfare. Across borders we observe serious problems in animal husbandry, transport and slaughter. Since we cannot stop the exploitation of camels, we at least want to promote animal welfare and are therefore planning a first scientific camel animal welfare project together with a recognised scientist. Therefore, we explore with the Ministry for Environment the possibilities for our project. We hope that we can lay with this project a foundation for the protection of camels.
