One year ago, Viva! Interwencje on behalf of Animals’ Angels has confiscated the horse Sibia from a run down farm. Yesterday her case has been heard at the regional court in Dzialdowo. The owner of Sibia is guilty of animal abuse. He, a veterinarian, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment suspended for 5 years, a ten year ban from posessing horses or dogs, employment ban and a 1250€ fine ought to be paid to the local animal shelter.
The court however, despite the demand of Viva’s!, acting as auxiliary prosecutor, did not revoke the veterinarian's licence. This will however be demanded through appeal, and as soon as the sentence is validated the case will again be taken to the veterinary chamber, which remains indifferent to all complaints.
One year ago, during the inspection of an animal husbandry, Viva! found Sibia with several head wounds resulting from an in-grown halter causing severe, life threatening skull deformation. Previously, the halter has been removed by the owner in a non-professional way, while leaving the huge wound untreated for many days, inflicting Sibia an unimaginable amount of pain.
Today Sibia is doing well. She lives with a foster family near Warsaw.
