ANDA and Animals‘ Angels inspect several cow husbandries on Gran Canaria. It seems like most ‘dairy’ cows on the island come from Holland or Germany. Admittedly most of the husbandries inspected by our team are free-run facilities in which the animals are at least not tethered day in, day out, but the high temperatures seem to bother most of them. The cows stand on bone-dry floor, they have access to water in all cases, but in some husbandries there is no shade. Thus the cattle stand and lie together breathing laboriously and give a torpid impression. ANDA and Animals’ Angels will file a complaint to the local government so that the cows at least always have access to shade.
