In Southern France ANDA and Animals’ Angels inspect a transport with pigs on its way from Spain to Belgium.  The pigs suffer extremely from the heat as the outside temperature rises up to 35°C.  They stand and squat in the lorry and pant with wide open mouths.  The drivers switch on the water system only after ANDA and Animals’ Angels asked them to do so.  Despite the high temperatures the pigs were loaded on midday.  The drivers are aware that this means further distress for the animals.  They explain that the Belgium slaughterhouse asks them to arrive early in the morning, because of which they have to load the pigs on midday in Spain.  This example shows once again that animals are treated as mere commodity, their suffering is considered irrelevant.  ANDA and Animals’ Angels campaign for a ban on long-distance transports of animals which are destined for slaughter.
