At the Spanish-French border Animals’ Angels inspects a transport with horses which are taken to Italy to be slaughtered.  As the transport breaches animal welfare legislation in several respects, the team follows the lorry to bring about a police check.  After several hours’ driving the drivers realise that they will not get rid of the team, so they turn around and take the horses back to the place of loading in Spain.  Animals’ Angels pays a visit to the responsible veterinary office in Spain, which openly admits that they are not able to improve the monitoring of long distance transports of live animals.  This is particularly alarming since Spain is the EU-country which tries to prevent any reduction of times for live animal transports
