12.08.2016 | Visiting Echuca Saleyard

Animals’ Angels visits Echuca where approx. 40 horses are for sale. The facility is well maintained and under cover which means although the animals are out of the rain in winter the wind blasts through the yard and is very cold. The rugging of horses in winter in this facility is recommended.

We assess each horse for his/her fitness to sell and transport according to legislation and all horses are fit to be sold. However, we do note a number of welfare concerns such as the lack of wind protection, supply of high quality Lucerne to horses who may be at risk of colic, the striking of horses with a length of poly pipe by a buyer and the irritation to a horse by a visitor.

We will provide a number of recommended changes to concerns in a report.
