Once again, Animals’ Angels checks animal transports along the well-known route between Spain and Italy. Near Geneva, they follow a transport with 180 pigs on board. They are transported from Spain via France to the very southern part of Italy.

The transport is overloaded and the over 100 kg heavy pigs are lying onto each other. Their bodies are covered by recent wounds and scratches. They have nothing to eat on board and the water system is switched off. Only due to the presence of Animals’ Angels the drivers turn it on. Immediately Valentina and her companions start drinking eagerly. For Alma it’s too late – she already dies during the first part of the journey.

2223 km and 48 hours of transport in total, until the animals arrive at the slaughterhouse on St. Valentine’s Day, the day of love. The next day they will be killed.

Pigs are allowed to be transported for maximum 24 hours. Then they must get a 24h-break. This transport clearly doesn’t comply with the regulation, because the animals are only unloaded for nine hours before starting their last journey to the slaughterhouse. Animals’ Angels tries again and again to call the police and competent veterinarians – but Sunday morning no one is working, at least not for the animals.

Animals‘ Angels urges the competent veterinary authorities to fulfill their duty to protect the animals and to stop giving permission for such transports as well as letting them depart without any control check, also not on weekends.
