Animals’ Angels observe and document the sale of over 15000 sheep. We don’t see any rough handling and all dogs are muzzled. However we note lane upon lane of selling pens each holding far too many sheep. The pens are so tight that the sheep cannot move. Additionally we note several unfit sheep are found in selling pens ready for transport.  It appears there is no system to draft off and assess potentially unfit animals therefore animals are not inspected at any stage and only those with broken legs are shot; sometime after (if) they are found. This means unfit animals may be routinely sold and transported. This yard is accredited under the National Saleyard Quality Assurance (NSQA) scheme; however we question the integrity of a system which fails to demand compliance to their requirements.
The regulatory authority was not present.
