Animals’ Angels arrive to observe there are no pigs, sheep, goats or cattle for sale, only poultry and birds, rabbits and guinea pigs are available.

The boxes containing the birds and small animals has improved and most cages have water, some have feed and straw in which the animals try to hide. DAFWA is here today checking the poultry but leave before the buyers collect their animals which is where the issues begin.

Two separate buyers in different instances are observed putting cages of birds in the boot of their car. It is explained to both men the birds need ventilation, and each complied with instructions with the cages being placed on the back seat of the vehicle.  A woman is also spoken with concerning her mishandling her chickens as she is transferring the birds from one cage to another. And a man carrying a goose by her legs and a hand under her chest was helped to understand how to carry the bird more carefully.

One of the biggest issues besides handling is appropriate transport. One buyer put too many chickens into a cage trapping the head of a bird between two wire cages and the same man put a box of birds on top of another box. The box was in danger of falling over and injuring the birds contained inside. The manager was alerted and he repositioned the box.
