Animals’ Angels and the animal welfare organisations Anda and PMAF inspect a transport in Italy with horses from Spain. Once again we find young horses which are not used to headcollars; transporting them over long distances is forbidden since 2007. However, this rule is ignored because horses raised in Spain for an Italian slaughterhouse are not considered worth the trouble to get them used to headcollars. The authorities on national and European level know about this problem but ignore it just the same. The animal welfare organisations will continue campaigning that existing animal welfare regulations are obeyed, and further that long-distance transports are banned altogether.
