Animals' Angels visits Mundijong animal market. 80 Sheep, 2 pigs, approx 77 poultry, 31 domestic birds, 4 rabbits 12 guinea pigs, 1 ferret and 3 Native Galahs are for sale. It is around 40°C and in many cages the poultry stand with their beaks open. One cage with canaries has no water at all and the container is filled. A few of the sheep exhibit a sunken area around their hips perhaps because of lack of food or the effects of worms. Once the animals under the shelter are loaded, the remaining sheep are moved out of the sun and into the shade area where water is also provided. There is a gap in the floor of the ramp because a length of timber missing. This gap is a potential welfare risk as an animal could get its leg caught. The Shire will be contacted.
The difference in behaviour of those handling animals is noted as being much improved when the DAFWA Inspector is present. Today the Inspector is watching loading. The loading is without incident.
