ANDA and Animals’ Angels check a transport with cattle on its way from Spain to Italy.  The young cattle were born in France, were brought to Spain for fattening and are now transported to Italy for slaughter.  This is a usual procedure.  The European veterinary association, among others, has been demanding for several years that animals should be slaughtered as close to their place of birth as possible.  Long-distance animal transports are not in line with the animal welfare requirements as laid down in the EU-treaty.  The European Commission, however, tolerates these torture transports, so not to contradict the commercial interests of the industry.  The suffering of the animals is irrelevant for them.  ANDA and Animals’ Angels will continue to campaign for a ban on long-distance transports.
