Animals‘ Angels inspects the market in Vicovu de Sus at the Ukrainian border. Cattle, pigs and birds in addition to fruits, vegetables and house wares are for sale.

The animals don’t seem to be considered as living beings but as unprocessed groceries. Animal welfare is no issue here. At the side of the market some strong cold-blooded horses are tethered to trucks. Surrounding them are 40 men full of expectations. The situation is tense and they critically examine the Animals’ Angels team. Then their Saturday morning show starts.

For one hour the horses are forced one after another to pull two big concrete blocks standing on the ground. While doing so they are held with sharp bits and mistreated with whiplashes. They collapse repeatedly. Amongst them are two weaker warmbloods, Fiona and Lennard. They have to pull multiple times because they don’t succeed at first. They have to pay for their weakness because their owner is in rage as the crowd laughs at him.

Animals’ Angels documented the situation in order to give the footage to a Romanian lawyer to file charges against the persons involved.
