Animals' Angels again inspects Pugu cattle and goat market located in Tanzania’s capital city Dar es Salaam. Last year, after our first visit at the market, we have initiated a small project together with the local animal welfare organization Taweso to take action against the existing deficiencies.

There has been considerable change taking place in the meantime: the animals are now provided with feed and water, four concrete water troughs and a lateral protection for one of the ramps were installed, and no longer are heavy truncheons sold at the market. Additionally, our leaflets attract a lot of attention.

But still there is a lot of chaos, aggression and brutality during loading procedures. The transport vehicles continue to be massively overloaded. But although there is still much to do: by Tanzanian standards, and taking into account that there has never been any person caring about the welfare of ‘farm’ animals at the market, we have reached some incredible achievements.

Following our inspection, we talk to the market’s director about the remaining deficiencies and file a complaint to the competent ministry.
