Animals’ Angels is welcomed by the General Director (DG) of Animal Health at the Italian Ministry of Health to discuss the current state of protection of animals during transport.

From a legal point of view, EU Regulation 1/2005 provides some minimum requirements. But the result so far is that even this minimum protection is not put into practice for many reasons that can be summarized in one sentence: the legislation is incomplete and therefore it is utopian to enforce it.

Animals’ Angels presents its recent documentary “Myth of Enforcement” to the director and other participants – the Director of the Animal Welfare Unit, the Director responsible for the export of live animals and the Director of General Affairs of Animal Health.  The DG declares to be supportive towards a selective revision of the regulation, but he also points out that possible problems would be distortions of the “market” and traders claiming indemnities.

Animals’ Angels again emphasizes that there will be no true animal protection as long as profit is considered as the victim to protect in live animal transport.
