There is a set of guidelines available to the Australian farming industry which assists with the process of assessment of the condition of animals with the principle being that only animals who are fit for a journey are transported.
With Animals’ Angels participation, the Dept of Agriculture and Food WA (DAFWA) have published an advice sheet on pain in animals. The aim of the factsheet is to increase awareness about animal behaviour, to help correctly identify animals who are experiencing pain but not showing it and reduce the suffering of compromised animals who would otherwise be transported.
