ANIMALS” ANGELS visits the yard to find 13,000 sheep for sale. The first sheep we find is heavily pregnant and about to deliver. She is given to a man who will take her to his property close to the yard; we assist in lifting her into the ute. We also identify 4 sheep which are unfit for transport but have been declared fit to transport to the petfood slaughterhouse by the saleyard. The correct identification of what determines an animal to be unfit for transport is a major issue in many saleyards. If an animal is not bearing weight or exhibits signs of a condition which show the animal may suffer during transport the animal is not fit for transport. These sheep were shot. We also requested a sheep whose leg was broken as he was being loaded onto a truck be shot immediately. The manager had not been notified by the driver or his superior.
