3 August 2012 | Spain | Italy

ANDA and Animals’ Angels follow a transport with pigs on its way from Spain to Italy.  The pigs suffer severely from the high temperatures.  They pant with wide open mouths, are very irritable and bite each other.  The drivers do not even switch on the water system, because “then they might have to refill the tank”.  Finally they switch on the system, having been urged by ANDA and Animals’ Angels, and the animals drink eagerly.  Although it is commonly known that pigs cannot adapt well to heat, only few carriers plan their transports accordingly.  Suffering of all and even death of some animals are taken for granted.  Likewise, there are only very few veterinary offices which refuse to clear long-distance transports with pigs.  ANDA and Animals’ Angels will complain once again to the responsible veterinary office as well as the carrier.
