In response to our report 'Animal Markets in Poland', two city councils – Zambrów and Długosiodło – informed our partner organisation Viva! Interwencje that their markets have been closed.
Both were reluctant to disclose any further information, but the team has learned that Długosiodło has been closed as the turnover for animals was too low, while Zambrów, which used to be a large cattle market, was not willing to allocate funds in improving its market infrastructure to assure meeting all due requirements.
But no matter the reasons, any decisions resulting in less animal suffering should be considered a step in a right direction.
