We are attending the EU Platform on Animal Welfare in Brussels. Organised by the European Commission, this platform is an important forum for discussing current animal welfare issues. As a member of the Platform, Animals’ Angels is directly involved in these discussions. In addition to the welfare of dogs and cats, this meeting focuses particularly on the protection of so-called “farm” animals, both in terms of their housing and transport. Discussions on a new EU regulation on the protection of animals during transport are continuing, and the need for reform is urgent. Like many parts of Europe, Brussels is experiencing a heatwave. On the day of the meeting, temperatures in the city reached 36°C. Our thoughts are with the animals on the transport trucks. We hope that, through our participation in this meeting, we have helped strengthen awareness of their suffering and the urgent need to improve their protection.
