Just as we did last June, Animals’ Angels is once again taking part in the project days at the academic secondary school in Großburgwedel, Lower Saxony, in 2026. Nine highly motivated students from years 5 and 6 are spending three days exploring the topic of ‘animal welfare of ‘farm’ animals’. Our workshop takes place on the second day and together with this enthusiastic group we delve into the complex issue of animal transport.
The day before, the students had already explored the topic of ‘laying hens and eggs’ together with their biology teacher, Ulrike Kowald, and had gained a good basic understanding of the lives of animals in agriculture. Now the focus is on the broader context of ‘farm’ animal husbandry, including housing conditions and transport routes. We explore the difference between organic and conventional farming and the ways in which consumers can get involved in promoting better animal welfare. The pupils then get creative and design a dream home for animals. Despite the intense heat on this summer day, all participants are fully engaged and throw themselves wholeheartedly into the topic and all the activities.
