Australia: At the Forbes Central West Livestock Exchange livestock market

Cattles at the Forbes Central West Livestock Exchange

Over 1,500 cattle and calves were offered for sale at today’s auction at the Forbes Central West Livestock Exchange. The facility is well maintained, clean and tidy; the flooring is soft, allowing the animals to lie down. However, we noted that some pens require fresh sawdust, as there were damp areas.

We were informed that most cattle are fed the evening before the auction, before being moved into the holding pens, where hay bales were placed nearby. The animals have sufficient space in the pens to access water. We support the plan to lower the troughs by 10 cm so that smaller animals can also reach the water. Handling of the animals was acceptable.
