Australia: Attending Geelong Saleyard

Animals’ Angels visit the Geelong Poultry Market and find approx 160 chickens, pigeons, and ducks, plus 1 rabbit for sale. All cages have water, all animals appear to be in acceptable condition and they have room to move. Density is acceptable which is very important.

We also note the market have a person monitoring buyer behaviours- that is if they are putting their boxes of birds in the boot of the vehicle. The person stops three separate people putting birds in the boots of their cars.

The cattle saleyard is empty of animals and since our correspondence in 2015 when we asked the floor of the cattle pens be repaired; we observe it has been covered in concrete. The cattle and sheep saleyard is closed until repairs have been made. It appears the Council may reopen in 2017.
