We are at the Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange market in Australia. It is a cool morning. We are in a covered facility where over 8,400 sheep are offered for sale. Once they are sold, they are moved to holding pens that are not under cover.
The vast majority of the sheep are fit for sale and transport; however, we draw the manager’s attention to a number of animals that, in our view, are not fit for transport. These sheep are examined, and decisions are made on what steps should be taken to ensure their welfare.
As a matter of fact, we observe animal welfare issues at the market, which we will present along with our recommendations in our report.
