Australia: Checking Animal Welfare Standards at Mount Barker Saleyard

Seperate Bull Pens at Saleyard in Australia

Animals’ Angels visit the cattle saleyard to check on welfare and meet the new manager. Approximately 752 cattle are for sale. Apart from one animal who, has, we think, a low Body Condition Score, the rest are in good condition. In most cases the handling was quiet and calm, however an unacceptable incident was observed. The manager gave an undertaking to speak with those responsible and prevent reoccurrence.

Bulls are put into singular stalls which separate one bull from another. The floor is concrete, and the heavy animals stand unable to freely move around for up to 5-6 hours. One large heavy bull appears stiff and unwilling to move.
