The temperature is around 15 °C, and although it is not bitterly cold, it becomes unpleasant when one is soaked to the skin. The rain is beating down, and we see sheep and lambs exposed to the cold in their pens without any protection. We observe a small truck unloading sheep. Some are unable to get up because they were lying on their sides beneath other sheep—apparently due to the truck being overcrowded. After a short time, all the sheep have been unloaded except for one. We name her Karine. She struggles to stand. Finally, she manages to get up and wobbles out of the truck, down the ramp, and into the yard.
We observe the unloaded sheep and many of their pen mates shivering in the rain. They are thin and generally in poor condition, which worsens their suffering—yet this seems to be ignored.
It seems that disrespectful treatment of animals has become normalized.
