Australia: Meeting with Department for Animal Welfare in Tasmania

Animals’ Angels meet with representatives from the welfare section within the Govt Department who administer the animal welfare legislation relevant to farm animals in Tasmania. We discuss various issues including the requirement for trailers transporting calves be covered to protect these vulnerable animals against heat or cold, the ability to recognise animals who are not fit for the intended journey and take the appropriate action, the need to supply educational materials to prevent unacceptable behaviours, rough and uneven flooring causing sore feet in sheep, the need for signage, lack of proactive involvement of the DPIPWE in the saleyard area, and the failure to include pain in animals and long claws on the relevant DPIPWE website page.

They look forward to our reports.
