Australia: No Water in Pens for Sheep at Saleyard in Naracoorte

Sheep in Pens at Saleyard in Australia

Animals’ Angels visit the saleyard the evening before the sale day. The evening is cold and wet. The sheep pens are not under cover so there is no protection for them. We look at the water provision for sheep that may have been delivered at the facility and penned overnight. Several pens in which sheep are held do not have water despite the mandatory code for saleyards requiring that they do.

We return the next day to check sheep and cattle who are for sale. The sheep we noted the evening before have been moved into the salepens, and these pens do not provide water either.

We report this to the new manager, and will raise this in our report.
