Australia: Too many Sheep in Sale Pens at Katanning Saleyard

Sheep in Pens at Katanning Saleyard

Animals’ Angels visit the saleyard the evening before the sale. There are approximately 8000 sheep already in sale pens and another 2000 or so in the holding pens. The density of many of the sheep in the sale pens does not, we think, satisfy the requirements of the new Transport Regulations 2020. The reason why sheep are not given sufficient space to access water and lie down to rest in most if not all saleyards is to save the cost of handling them twice. We will make our views on the density known in the report.
