Australia: Visiting Camperdown Saleyard – We Raise Critical Points in our Report

Cows at Saleyard in Australia

Animals‘ Angels visits the saleyard at Camperdown which has been under new management for a number of months. There are approximately 600 cattle including bulls and 195 calves for sale.

Although rubber matting, which helps prevent foot soreness, is provided in the cattle sale pens, we note there is no matting in the bull or calf pens. Potentially the bulls may be standing on concrete for many hours and the calves have nothing but cold concrete to lay on.

Also, we observe that many transport trailers do not have protection for the calves from the cold or heat. It is mandatory that bobby calves between five and 30 days old being transported must be protected from cold and heat. These are issues we will raise in our report.
