Australia: Visiting Dubbo Saleyard – Majority of Animals Standing in the Full sun

Sheep in pen at Dubbo Saleyard, Australia

Animals’ Angels visit Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets for the first time where approximately 20.000 sheep are for sale. It is about 34 °C, sunny with little wind. Some animals have shade from a few trees, but the vast majority are in full sun. The floor is concrete which releases heat.

There are a number of welfare issues we will include in our report to the management of the facility and other recipients within the industry.  The stocking density is of concern as is the identification of sheep who are not fit for sale or transport. Unacceptable handling by a driver will also get a mention.
