Australia: Visiting Mount Gambier Saleyard

Animals’ Angels visit the yard where 902 cattle and 3130 sheep are for sale. Although the day is cool, the water troughs are clean and provide fresh water.

It appears an improvement in the handling of cattle has occurred since our last visit to this facility. We hope so as the handling last time was unacceptable. We do not see the same mishandling of cattle this time.

Density of sheep remains an issue, which makes it difficult to identify unfit sheep. We find one animal who is in our view unfit. The sheep was not weight bearing and his left hind leg ‘knuckled over’. Despite the auctioneer/agent being told this, the sheep was sold.  We arrange for the sheep to be euthanized.
