Australia: Visiting Sale of 3.000 Sheep at Muchea Saleyard

Sheep in an Overcrowded pen at a Saleyard in Australia

Animals’ Angels visit the sheep sale where approximately 3000 sheep are offered to buyers. We observe one sheep in a mob that had been sold who is lame in his right fore leg. When stationary or moving, he carries his leg most of the time. We point this out to management and he is shot. Two other sheep are lame in their hind legs, and they too are shot.

We don’t observe sheep with clear pre-existing conditions. Water is now available in all sale and holding pens. Some sale pen stocking densities prevent sheep from lying down to rest and accessing water which is a requirement if these sheep were in these pens overnight.
