EU Animal Welfare Platform: Mandate Will be Extended – Funding Remains Limited

5th Meeting of the EU Animal Welfare Platform in Brussels

Animals' Angels attends the 5th meeting of the EU Animal Welfare Platform in Brussels. The acting Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy points out in a flaming speech that the clear desire of EU citizens for more animal welfare is not taken into account in the budget distribution and that the animal welfare department is not provided with sufficient funds. Nevertheless, the mandate of the platform will be extended by one year, until June 2021.

At the heart of the platform are the various sub-groups on animal transport, animal welfare for fish, equidae, chicks, pigs and dogs in the trade, which have developed and are developing various materials and guidelines to promote animal welfare. Unfortunately, the Commission is also unable to provide funds for the translation of these materials, but merely undertakes to provide support for their circulation. Animals' Angels is part of the Animal Transport, Animal Welfare for Fish and Equidae sub-groups.
