Animal welfare organisations call on the EU Parliament to act!
Animals' Angels is at the EU Parliament in Brussels. We follow the invitation of MEPs Anja Hazekamp and Sebastian Everding, together with other animal welfare organisations, to present our jointly produced film ‘Live export - beyond borders, beyond imagination’.
Watch the film here: https://www.animals-angels.de/live-exports-beyond-borders-beyond-imagination
Please note: The film contains brutal and shocking scenes.
The film shows the bitter truth for the animals on export - from trucks being stuck at non-EU borders for days and weeks with the animals on board the lorries without emergency measures being taken for the animals, to the countless problems and high risks involved in transporting animals by vessel, to the cruel slaughter practices that the animals face in third countries. These scenes are not exceptions but reflect the systematic problems of live animal exports in a shocking way.
The film screening is followed by an interesting discussion in which we take questions from the audience. The participants are visibly moved by the images. We NGOs all agree: the EU must finally take responsibility - only an export ban to third countries can end the suffering of animals!
We are happy that a representative of the EU Commission is taking part in the event! Unfortunately, however, none of the MEPs who have been invited are taking on this responsibility - they are staying away from the event. That is very disappointing! We are currently at an extremely important moment - the revision of the EU Animal Welfare Transport Regulation is imminent. However, the current draft regulation does not properly tackle the export problem - on the contrary, exports to third countries are to remain permitted. The lack of interest shown by many MEPs in this issue shows once again that we still have a long and difficult road ahead of us. But we will not give up!
