Germany: Animal welfare project days for all 5th graders at Eichenlaubschule

Germany: Animal welfare project days for all 5th graders at Eichenlaubschule

“The Angels are back!” we are greeted as we enter the staff room. This is the sixth time we have visited the Eichenlaubschule in Saarland with our animal welfare programme, and as always, we are delighted by the warm welcome.

Building upon our visit in December 2025, this time we spend whole mornings with all three classes of 5th graders. We take a detailed look at the conditions under which animals are kept and transported in the agricultural sector, and explore what options we have for taking action as consumers and members of society. In doing so, we consider different perspectives on animal husbandry and discuss the background to existing problems as well as possible improvements. The pupils are very enthusiastic, fully engage with the topic and the individual exercises, and take part in lively discussions.

A heartfelt thank you for the invitation, the fantastic support from the teachers, and the excellent organisation.
