India: Improvements for the Animals at Cattle Market in P. L. Puram

Today, we visit the cattle market in P. L. Puram – a market that clearly proofs that change is possible.

One year ago, the market had the same problems being inherent in all cattle markets in India. But finally, the local authorities, together with the market administration, refurbished the market area from the ground up.

Next to well thought-out tying devices, the animals are provided with shade, water basins and feeding troughs. Besides, there are flat loading ramps and two veterinarians being very committed to ensure that the animals at the market are treated with respect.

Of course, we know that the animals at P. L. Puram are eventually sold for slaughter. But we are very glad about all the efforts that have been taken to spare them from unnecessary suffering.
