Calf Transport to Turkey: Not Enough Room for the Animals, Posing High Risk of Injury

Calf Transport to Turkey

In Bulgaria, we inspect an animal transport with calves from Slovakia, which is on its way to Turkey. For days the animals have hardly any room to lie down.

The calf Matej lies on its side. Above his head and belly are other calves. Because there is no room, they have nowhere else to go. A wrong movement, a jerky braking and Matej could be seriously injured. We speak to the driver, who just shrugs his shoulders. Not his problem, the Turkish buyer has loaded ten calves too many. Shortly afterwards, the animals are unloaded at the supply station, before going further to Turkey.

We will confront the Bulgarian and Slovakian authorities with our observations and spread our reports as far as possible. The indifference towards the animals must end!
