Animals' Angels represents the International Coalition for Animal Welfare (ICFAW) at the three-day training of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) for the animal welfare focal points in the English-speaking countries in Africa. The main topics of the training event are transport, slaughter and emergency preparedness. Animals' Angels is leading a working group on animal transport and is pleased about the active participation and lively discussion. The veterinarians know exactly where the animal welfare problems lie in their countries, but it becomes clear that they have no chance of tackling the existing transport problems due to a lack of legal instruments and staff. One problem that we are hardly aware of in Europe is the so-called 'tracking'. Animals and their owners often walk hundreds of kilometres to get to a market where the animals are finally sold for slaughter. Once again, the different realities of animal welfare become clear and also how closely the living conditions of humans and animals are linked. Animals' Angels is pleased that several ICFAW member organizations are committed to animal welfare in Africa and that the countries are open to support from NGOs.
