Our Moroccan team - Ayoub and Boubaker - is taking action for the animals at the market of Mers El Kheir. Our team starts its rounds at the 'parking lot' of the market and checks the donkeys there for injuries. All seem to be fine - only the little donkey Farid has a wound on his leg. His owner has 'treated' it with engine oil, a method unfortunately often used at the markets. Ayoub explains the situation to Farid's owner. For years, our team has been trying to convince animal owners not to use this method.
Most of the donkeys and horses in the market have already been unsaddled by their owners, with a few exceptions that are still tied to their heavy carts. Some of them have small injuries on their bodies as a result - like Kamil the donkey. He has a small wound on his hind leg. Unfortunately, our team can't find his owner to learn more about Kamil. So they help Kamil like this and clean and treat his wounds to avoid further problems.
The team ends their visit by providing the donkeys and horses with food and water. In addition, there is enough grooming for everyone. Next week, Ayoub and Boubaker will be back in action for the animals in Mers El Kheir, continuing their controls and educating and sensitizing the people.
