Two trucks carrying calves from Spain were held at the port of Tangier-Med (Morocco) since August 18 due to disputes over customs fees. The animals were forced to remain in the trucks for four days. Unloading was not possible, as Tangier-Med provides no infrastructure for the emergency care or accommodation of live animals.
On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Animals' Angels was informed of this case. Since then, we have been in constant contact with the responsible authorities to ensure that the animals were supplied with water and feed. At the same time, we urged all parties involved to find a swift solution so that the animals could be unloaded immediately, thereby preventing another catastrophe.
On August 21, 2025, the trucks were finally able to leave the port with the animals on board, heading towards their final destination. It is unacceptable that the animals had to endure four days locked inside the trucks, putting their lives at serious risk. Nevertheless, in this case, thanks to the commitment and responsiveness of the authorities and all parties involved, a tragic outcome could be prevented – unlike in earlier incidents, such as the one in 2024 at the same port of Tangier-Med.
