Morocco: Our Team is Happy to see Many Small Improvements at Mers El Kheir Market

Animals' Angels at Mers El Kheir Market, Morocco

The Moroccan Animals' Angels team visits the animal market in Mers El Kher near Rabat to help the animals. Ayoub and Boubaker first check the sales area of the birds. It is already busy. Our team is happy to see, finally, that more sellers are providing the birds with covers from the sun, and some of them provide the animals with water and food. However, other sellers still use bad methods to keep their animals: our team discover three ducks stuck in a closed plastic bag – which is a common practice in the market. Ayoub and Boubaker do not hesitate to speak and convince the seller to free the animals. Before leaving the area, the team provides the birds with fresh water and food, and of course, they speak repeatedly with the sellers to be more attentive to the animals.

Aftewards, Ayoub and Boubaker walk around the market to help and provide first aid to the donkeys and horses. Most of them are tied to their carts and without any shade. Today the team meets the donkey Farid once again. Farid is a little donkey that Ayoub and Boubaker treated a while ago and he is doing very well now. The wound in his belly is almost healed. His owner created a little space for him to move around and provided him with some protection from the sun.

Today, our team is happy about these small positives improvements which help them to keep hope and to continue with their efforts to change the situation of the animals at the market.
