After a criminal complaint by Viva! Interwencje, the District Court of Krotoszyn sentenced a fishmonger to 3 months imprisonment without probation for animal cruelty. The man had killed carp alive and without stunning with a guillotine at his stand at the market in Krotoszyn on Christmas 2018. The 59-year-old pleaded guilty and declared that he did not knew that his method of killing was illegal.
Prison sentences for animal cruelty are rare in Poland – and never before has such a sentence been imposed for the abuse of fish.
