07.06.2016 | Visiting Muchea Saleyard

Animals’ Angels attend the yard where between 8-9000 sheep and 2000 cattle are for sale. The cattle appear to be in acceptable condition. We observe 8 newly shorn sheep in a sale pen and one sheep is shivering with cold. It is winter here and the day is cold, even colder in the undercover area.

Identification and handling of sheep who are unfit for transport remains a matter for management to address as we see sheep who are non-weight bearing in sale pens.

We also observe and document a one deck cattle truck loaded with sheep. One of the three sections is overloaded; so full of sheep that those who were unable to find the room and the floor to stand on, stood on other sheep. Others had just their hind feet on the floor with the rest of their body over other sheep.  We were unable to contact anyone to intervene. The DAFWA (Dept. of Ag and Food WA) were not present.
