It is around 12 midday, there are 35-37°C and AA is on the highway near Bologna. The team is surprised to find out that trucks are transporting turkeys at this time of day and with such hot temperatures. In fact the animals have their beak wide open, which is a typical sign of thermal stress. When the team gets closer to the turkeys, it can hear some of them panting and breathing with difficulty. The majority of them are sitting down because there is not enough space to stand. Some of them touch the ceiling with their head even when sitting down. Some have a foot trapped between the flap and the cage. A cage collapsed and the animals risk to get injured. One of the drivers of the observed trucks, careless of the heat and of the animals, even decides to stop and fill up with petrol, only a few minutes before arriving at the slaughterhouse. The animals wait under the sun when the truck could be filled up later. AA will file a complaint against the transporters and the slaughterhouses.
