15.04.2015 | Inspection of Mt. Compass Saleyard

Animals’ Angels visit the saleyard where approx 1500 cattle are for sale.

We note at least one cow with what appears to be an eye irritation and one with long horns that on one side seem to be growing very nearly into the face. The handling was reasonably quiet; the cattle are moved with a plastic garden rake which would not hurt them. After sale the animals are moved to the outside and those who remain for a while are given water and feed. Some will be put in pens ready for immediate collection.

We noted a trailer parked in the car parking area with mesh on the floor that was in an unacceptable condition. It needed to be replaced. We asked the yard to keep an eye on the trailers.
