Animals‘ Angels inspects an auction in Lingen, Lower-Saxony, where mainly ‚milk‘ cows and ‘fattened’ calves are for sale. Despite the breeders association’s directive calling farmers to milk their cows at least every 12 hours, milk drips and squirts from most cow´s brimful udders already a couple of hours before the auction starts. This is supposed to help the farmers achieving a higher price but it causes serious and unnecessary pain to the animals. Furthermore Animals’ Angels observes how several calves get their tails twisted painfully in order to be weighed without resistance. Animals’ Angels will prompt the breeders association to enforce the introduced measures more consequently and to better protect the animals against poor handling.
