Together with around 30 animal welfare organisations, we are currently calling on the EU and the member states to stop cross-border transports. In addition, the so-called long-distance transports, i.e. transports that take longer than eight hours, are to be suspended.
More than ever, there is a risk that animal transports will get stuck in traffic jams and at borders, that animals cannot be unloaded and supplied and that official support is not available. At the same time, there must be a breeding stop to prevent stalls becoming overcrowded and farmers no longer knowing how to care for unsaleable animals.
We also call on the animal transport companies to suspend transport in order to protect animals and staff.
